Exploring The Cutty Sark

Either it is weekends, half term or any other holidays we are always in hunt for kids outdoor activities and learning places. I totally love when kids are able to answer and get the knowledge about everything. So when we were invited at Cutty Sark, at Greenwich, I was more than happy to explore a British clipper ship. We took Central line to Bank station from our location, and from there we took DLR to Greenwich. While exploring Greenwich area with kids, travelling in DLR train becomes a bonus :) Kids were pretending they were driving a train and it was total fun watching their excitement.

About Cutty Sark:

Cutty Sark is one of the most famous ships in the world and is the world’s only surviving extreme clipper also was one of the fastest ships of its day. Cutty Sark was built in 1869 and used to carry tea from China to Britain. It is an award-winning visitor attraction in Greenwich, London and now celebrating its 150th Year. It is open daily, 10am-5pm and prices are from £13.50 (adults), £6.75 (child) when booked online and £15.00 (adults), £7.50 (child) at the door.

You can explore the outside and insides and even underneath (the ship has been raised more than three metres). Onboard, there are three parts to discover - Tween deck, Main deck and The dock.

In the lowest part, you can watch a short movie about the ship and learn all the facts about the Cutty Sark. Fact: 'On the 15th of February 1870, Cutty Sark left London on her maiden voyage, bound for Shanghai and eight months later she returned with more than 600,000kg of Chinese tea on board.'

Then we hop into Tween Deck, where kids enjoyed a lot because it was full of action-packed games and fun filled activities. Kids even meet famous figurehead Nannie the Witch, the ships longest-serving master who explained about the life inside Cutty Sark.

Next we went to top deck where we got close to know about how the crew lived on the ship, have a peep on toilet, check out the kitchen and captain's cabins. Splendid view across the Thames was bonus too.

Last but not the least we went to café, the lowest part of the ship where the ship is lifted 3 meter high. Here we felt like we are sitting under the ship. Aarush did some creative activities like playing The Traders Games, which is quite like a board games where kids have to answer the facts about the ship and little one enjoyed the crafts activities.

If you are looking for a great place to visit in London this half term or summer holidays, this is it. Cutty Sark is a great family friendly attraction, particularly this year as it celebrates its 150th birthday. It is one of the best place to explore with kids as it have lots of fun for families on board.

This is an advertorial post and we were invited to visit The Cutty Sark. All words, opinions and images are my own.
